The YLF program has three areas - the main program, community service and leadership skills.

The eight sessions of the main program will allow the participants to explore varying aspects of the Birmingham community. Each session will begin at a location in the general downtown area and include visits to several other sites related to that day's topic. Participants will work with a number of adult leaders each day discussing a variety of issues that affect their community and gaining insight in to the complex decision-making that is essential in addressing those issues. Community Service projects, coordinated by Youthserve, will allow participants to have a direct impact on their communities, and YLF's leadership skills development sessions will help participants develop the specific skills that they need to be a leader in their community
